
Tennis legend Venus Williams won’t play on the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, the event revealed.
The event comes days after it introduced she would compete after accepting a wild-card entry.
“Our group has been knowledgeable that Venus shouldn’t be accepting the wild card this 12 months,” the occasion posted on X in an announcement attributed to event director Tommy Haas.
“We want Venus all the perfect and hope to see her again in Indian Wells sooner or later.”
The BNP Paribas Open beforehand issued a press launch revealing the previous world No 1 had been awarded a wildcard to make her tenth look on the event.
The 44-year-old has not competed because the Miami Open in March 2024.
The seven-time singles Grand Slam champion earlier confirmed to the TennisWeekly Podcast rumours of her skilled return weren’t true.
“I am not taking part in,” she confirmed.
“I’ll be abroad. I am not gonna be right here.”
