The Gujarat Cupboard, headed by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Wednesday granted its approval to confer municipal company standing to 9 municipalities within the state.
The choice was introduced by the state authorities within the final Finances session of Gujarat Meeting and following approval of the cupboard, formation of the 9 new municipal firms shall be notified quickly.
The 9 municipalities conferred with the municipal company standing embrace Navsari, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Surendranagar/Vadhvan, Morbi, Porbandar/Chhaya and Gandhidham.
The Cupboard’s resolution was introduced by spokesperson of the federal government and senior minister Rushikesh Patel in a press briefing.
“The cupboard has given its approval to the formation of 9 new municipal firms. Notification in that regard shall be out in a day or two. In coming days, 9 new municipal firms will come into existence. And with that, the city space of Gujarat will cross 50%,” he
mentioned.
Patel mentioned that these areas shall be notified as bigger city space after which Gujarat Provincial Municipal Company Act, 1949 shall be made relevant to it. After which, he added, an administrator shall be appointed and the elected physique of the 9 municipalities shall be dissolved.
The administrator will then take over the administration and the election of the municipal company shall be held after formation of wards and delimitation and fixing different such points.
By late Wednesday night, the state authorities transferred 9 IAS and GAS officers to the City Growth & City Housing Division for his or her appointment as municipal commissioners of the 9 new municipal firms.
Gujarat already has eight municipal firms; Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Gandhinagar. With 9 new municipal firms, the whole variety of these city our bodies shall be 17. And the variety of municipalities shall be right down to 149.

Morbi municipal company can have areas of Morbi municipality and village panchayats of Shaktasanala, Ravapara, Lilapar, Amreli, Nani Vavdi, Bhadiyad (Javahar), Trajpar (Maliya Vanaliya), Mahendranagar (Indiranagar) and Madhapar/Vajepar Oji.
Vapi municipality and village panchayats of Balithha, Salvav, Chhiri, Chharvada, Chanod, Karvad, Namdha, Chandor, Morai, Vatar and Kunta village panchayats shall be a part of the Vapi municipal company. Whereas, Anand Municipal Company will embrace areas of three municipalities Vallabhvidhyanagar, Karamsad and Anand together with village panchayats of Mogri, Gitodiya, Gamdi and Lambhvel.
Mehsana municipal company can have areas of Mehsana municipality and areas of village panchayats like Fatepara, Ramosana, Dediyasan, Palavasna, Heduva Hanumant, Taleti, Lakhvad, Palodar, Panchot, Gilosan, Nugar, and
Sakhpurda. The municipalities of Surendranagar, Dudhrej and Vadhvan together with village panchayats of Khamisana, Kherali, Malod, Mulchand, and Chamaraj will collectively kind Surendranagar municipal company.
The Porbandar Municipal Company will embrace Porbandar/Chhaya municipality and village panchayats of Vanana (Virpur), Digvijaygadh, Ratanpar and Zavar.
Nadiad Municipal Company in Central Gujarat can have areas of Nadiad municipality and village panchayats of Yoginagar, Piplag, Dumral, Fatepura, Kamla, Manjipura, Dabhan, Bilodara, Uttarsanda and Tundel.
