A former U.S. Postal Service (USPS) worker was not too long ago sentenced to jail after she and two co-conspirators stole checks price over $24 million, in response to the Division of Justice.
Dena J. King, the U.S. Lawyer for the Western District of North Carolina, introduced the sentencing in a press launch on Feb. 7. Final week, Charlotte residents Nakedra Shannon, 30, and Desiray Carter, 30, have been sentenced to 60 months and 54 months in jail for the crimes, respectively.
Officers say that Shannon, who was employed by the USPS from March 2021 to July 2023, stole incoming and outgoing checks whereas working as a mail processing clerk at a distribution heart in Charlotte.Â
In response to the press launch, Shannon admitted to stealing the checks on the job from April to July 2023. Her co-conspirators included Carter and Donell Gardner, who was sentenced to 54 months in jail and three years of supervised launch in 2023.

“[Shannon] conspired with Gardner and Carter to steal incoming and outgoing checks from the U.S. mail, which Gardner and Carter then bought to different people, together with utilizing the Telegram channel OG Glass Home,” the press launch detailed.
The thieves stole checks totaling greater than $24 million, in response to officers.
“[The total] consists of over $12 million in stolen checks that have been posted on the market on the Telegram channel OG Glass Home, and greater than $8 million in stolen U.S. Treasury checks,” the discharge added. “The defendants obtained a whole bunch of 1000’s of {dollars} in prison proceeds of the mail theft scheme.”
