A cleric in Bareilly has issued a fatwa instructing Muslims to steer clear of New Yr celebrations.
All India Muslim Jamaat Maulana nationwide president Shahabuddin Razvi issued the stricture on Sunday, saying that greeting one another on the New Yr and holding events was un-Islamic.
The fatwa states that beginning a yr from January is Christian and New Yr is a Christian means of celebrating the occasion.
Islam strictly prohibits such programmes, it says.
“Throughout New Yr celebrations, dances, obscenity, hooliganism, alcoholism, betting-like actions are organised in lodges. All these actions are banned within the Islamic Shariat. Any boy or lady discovered concerned in these actions shall be a perpetrator as per Sharia,” Razvi, a cleric belonging to the Barelvi sect, mentioned.
Fatwa is a doc of the reply issued by a mufti on a query requested on a spiritual subject.
Extra normally, it’s an extra-legal stricture issued to the members of the Muslim neighborhood.
