The U.S. navy will take management of a strip of federal land that spans three states alongside the southern border in an effort to stem unlawful immigration, a memorandum Friday by President Donald Trump stated.
The memorandum, “Navy Mission for Sealing the Southern Border of america and Repelling Invasions,” directs the secretaries of Protection, Inside, Agriculture and Homeland Safety “to offer for the use and jurisdiction by the Division of Protection over such Federal lands, together with the Roosevelt Reservation and excluding Federal Indian Reservations, which are fairly essential to allow navy actions.”
He wrote it might embrace “border-barrier building and emplacement of detection and monitoring gear.”

The Roosevelt Reservation covers California, New Mexico and Arizona and was designated as federal land by Theodore Roosevelt in 1907 to maintain the border safe.
