SEOUL and LONDON — Lawmakers and members of South Korea’s foremost opposition celebration gathered in Seoul on Wednesday to name for the resignation of President Yoon Suk Yeol following an evening of political chaos sparked by his televised declaration of martial legislation.
“If President Yoon doesn’t step down instantly, we are going to instantly start impeachment proceedings in accordance with the need of the folks,” the opposition Democratic Get together stated in a press release. “We’ll combat to the top along with all of the folks to guard the democracy and constitutional order of the Republic of Korea.”

The president stated as he declared martial legislation that the measure could be mandatory as a result of actions of the Democratic Get together, a liberal coalition that Yoon accused of controlling parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the federal government.

Following the Nationwide Meeting’s vote, Yoon stated he withdrew the troops that had been deployed to hold out martial legislation and “will carry martial legislation as quickly as we now have a quorum within the cupboard.”
The State Council then convened to vote to formally carry it.
