The outgoing chairman of the highly effective Senate International Relations Committee mentioned on ABC’s “This Week” that President-elect Donald Trump’s threats to grab the Panama Canal might drive allies of the US towards Russia and China.
In an interview Sunday with “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl, Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Maryland, mentioned Trump’s latest statements about taking up the Panama Canal, shopping for Greenland and making Canada the 51st U.S. state, are affecting “America’s credibility globally.”
“It is a critical assertion, as a result of it impacts America’s credibility globally,” Cardin, the outgoing chairman of the Senate International Relations Committee, mentioned. “Our allies do not know whether or not we’re dependable companions or not.”
Cardin added, “I do not know what the president-elect is saying with reference to how honest he’s, however I can inform you, it does elevate questions globally as as to if we’re a dependable accomplice.
