BJP MLA from Dabgram-Phulbari constituency in Jalpaiguri district Sikha Chatterjee on Thursday demanded that North Bengal must be declared a separate State. In the course of the ongoing West Bengal Meeting session, Chatterjee alleged that the individuals of North Bengal have been disadvantaged of the state price range.
“The individuals of North Bengal have one demand, both convey improvement or allow us to be a separate State. For years the individuals of North Bengal have been disadvantaged,” the BJP MLA mentioned whereas talking with mediapersons.
“This isn’t my assertion. I’m talking for the individuals of North Bengal. They need North Bengal to be separated and as their consultant I raised their demand within the State Meeting,” Sikha Chatterjee mentioned.
The BJP MLA additional alleged that although Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visits North Bengal, however she solely goes there for leisure. “She (CM) Mamata Banerjee goes there, dances sporting gloves after which comes again. There isn’t any improvement. Folks don’t get fundamental amenities like consuming water thus there’s this demand for a separate state.”
In 2024, Union Minister and state President Sukanta Majumdar had given a proposal to incorporate north Bengal within the Northeast area. In keeping with Majumdar, if North Bengal is included with the Northeast, then it should get its fair proportion of funds from central schemes.
