Expressing dissatisfaction with the continued police investigation into final 12 months’s gangrape case in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas during which a Trinamool block president has been named as an accused, the Calcutta Excessive Courtroom on Wednesday ordered the formation of a Particular Investigation Staff (SIT) to probe the incident.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, who was listening to a petition filed by the girl complainant alleging police inaction, additionally ordered the SIT to submit a progress report of its investigation to the ACJM of Basirhat as soon as a month.
In her plea, the girl stated that on Might 16, 2024, she had lodged a criticism towards an area Trinamool chief Dilip Mallik and three others of raping her. As per the Excessive Courtroom’s order, the SIT will comprise Assistant Commissioner of Police (Murder, Detective Division) Bireswar Chatterjee, and IPS officer and Baduria sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Rahul Mishra.
