Former chief election commissioner Navin Chawla handed away Saturday at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi. He was 79.
Chawla was admitted to the hospital for a mind surgical procedure, information company PTI reported.
“Unhappy to learn about passing on of Shri Navin Chawla, former Chief Election Commissioner of India. Might his soul relaxation in peace,” his colleague and former CEC SY Quraishi wrote on X.

From IAS batch of 1969, Chawla served because the CEC from 2009 to 2010. Chawla was the election commissioner between 2005 and 2009, after which chief election commissioner from April 2009 to July 2010
