The United States Division of Schooling has launched Title IX investigations into Maine’s DOE and a state college district for allegedly ignoring President Donald Trump’s government order on transgender athletes in women’ and ladies’s sports activities.
Maine joins California and Minnesota as states to be investigated for allegedly persevering with to permit organic males to compete towards organic females.
“At present the U.S. Division of Schooling’s Workplace for Civil Rights (OCR) despatched a letter to the Maine Division of Schooling Commissioner Pender Makin asserting that OCR is initiating a directed investigation of the Maine Division of Schooling (MDOE) amid allegations that it continues to permit male athletes to compete in women’ interscholastic athletics and that it has denied feminine athletes female-only intimate services, thereby violating federal antidiscrimination regulation,” the USDOE stated in a press launch Friday.Â

Mills launched a press release on Friday, saying, “The State of Maine is not going to be intimidated by the President’s threats.”Â
Trump vowed on Thursday to not give Maine any federal cash if the state continues to permit organic males to compete in women’ and ladies’s athletics.
“They’re nonetheless saying, ‘We would like males to play in ladies’s sports activities,’ and I can’t imagine that they are doing that. . . . So, we’re not going to offer them any federal funding, none in any respect, till they clear that up,” Trump stated.
Performing assistant secretary for civil rights Craig Trainor added as a part of the DOE’s announcement, “Maine would have you ever imagine that it has no selection in the way it treats ladies and women in athletics – that’s, that it should observe its state legal guidelines and permit male athletes to compete towards ladies and women. The USDOE can be investigating San Jose State, UPenn and a Massachusetts highschool. Trans athletes Blaire Fleming and Lia Thomas starred for SJSU and the Ivy League college, respectively, with Thomas successful an NCAA Division I title in 2022.
Trump signed the “Preserving Males Out of Girls’s Sports activities” government order on Feb. 5.
