A Delhi courtroom on Tuesday prolonged Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid’s interim bail until October 28. Rashid had been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in a case of alleged terror funding since 2019. Earlier, on September 10, the Courtroom of Further Periods Decide Chander Jit Singh had granted him interim bail till October 2 to marketing campaign for the Meeting elections in Jammu & Kashmir.
Rashid, who contested the Lok Sabha election as an Unbiased, defeated Nationwide Convention vp Omar Abdullah on the Baramulla seat, and was launched from Tihar on parole on July 5 to take oath as MP.
On Could 30, 2017, the Nationwide Investigation Company (NIA) registered a case beneath IPC Part 120B (felony conspiracy) and varied sections of the Illegal Actions (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA) towards Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed and different “secessionist and separatist” leaders who, in response to the NIA, “obtained and picked up” funds by way of hawala channels in “connivance with energetic militants of…terrorist organizations Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Lashkar-e-Toiba” to fund “terrorist actions” in Jammu and Kashmir.
Rashid was not named within the case on the time, and he was not among the many 12 accused within the NIA’s first chargesheet filed on January 18, 2018, or within the first supplementary chargesheet naming one accused that was filed on January 22, 2019. Rashid was arrested on August 9, 2019, 4 days after the abrogation of Article 370 and removing of J&Okay’s particular standing. He was named as accused within the second supplementary chargesheet filed on October 4, 2019.
