The Congress on Thursday expressed solidarity with legal professionals protesting towards the proposed amendments to Advocates Act, 1961. The Regulation Ministry had revealed the draft Advocates (Modification) Invoice, 2025 final week and sought strategies and objections from the general public.
The AICC Regulation, Human Rights and RTI Division in a press release raised “three major issues” over the proposed Invoice. The primary concern of the division is that as a substitute of making a “correct discussion board” to permit legal professionals to boost grievances and points, the proposed Invoice takes away “legal professionals’ rights to boost reputable calls for by means of a boycott or abstinence from work with the imposition of penal penalties”.
The second concern: the proposed Invoice “permits for extreme authorities interference” in “composition, apply and process {of professional} regulatory our bodies” and thereby “deviates from the precept of self-autonomy and self-independence”.
