Recalling Mamata Banerjee’s expulsion from the Congress in 1997, when Sitaram Kesri was celebration president, former state unit chief Pradip Bhattacharya has stated that the Congress was nonetheless paying the value of expelling her in West Bengal.
“The Congress remains to be paying the value for the expulsion of Mamata Banerjee (in 1997). I had tried to forestall it however (the then state Congress chit) Somen Mitra was pressured to take the choice underneath the stress of the celebration management,” Bhattacharya stated on Saturday whereas unveiling a bust of Somen Mitra, who died in 2020.
Former MP Bhattacharya stated Mitra had expelled Mamata Banerjee in 1997 following directions from the then celebration chief Sitaram Kesri as a result of her feedback in opposition to the celebration line.
“The day Mamata Banerjee was expelled, I used to be getting back from Srirampur. I used to be on the highway after I received a name from Somen Mitra. He informed me, Sitaram Kesri stated it’s important to expel her… That day I informed Somen to not do it. I informed him don’t do something. However such was the stress on him that he needed to. And for that, the Congress celebration remains to be struggling even at present. I have no idea how the celebration will fill the hole or get well from it,” the senior Congress chief stated.
After her expulsion, Mamata Banerjee fashioned the Trinamool Congress and went on to turn out to be the chief minister of West Bengal after ending the 34-year rule of the Left Entrance. In the meantime, Bhattacharya’s feedback triggered a political row, with senior celebration chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury questioning the timing of the feedback.
Hinting on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections within the state, Chowdhury, a former state unit president and critic of Mamata, stated: “One might remorse it at present as a result of the Rajya Sabha polls are forward… He (Bhattacharya) is a veteran chief. He can say because it was of their time the expulsion occurred.”
Reacting to Bhattacharya’s remarks, TMC chief Kunal Ghosh stated, “He’s right. The Congress within the state was aligned with the Left Entrance, which contributed to its decline.”
