The Centre on Monday prolonged the ban on the United Liberation Entrance of Asom (ULFA) for 5 years, citing continued involvement in legal actions and extortion and pursuing an goal of secession from India.
The notification states that this declaration extends to all its factions, wings and frontal organisations. The ULFA was first declared an illegal group in 1990 and has been prolonged periodically. In December 2023, ULFA’s pro-talks faction signed a pact with the Centre and the Assam state, agreeing to shun violence, disband the organisation.
