BJP MP Tejasvi Surya and editors of some Kannada information portals have been booked for allegedly spreading faux information linking a farmer’s suicide to land disputes with Waqf Board, police stated on Friday.
Sharing the article of the information portals on ‘X‘, the Bengaluru South MP on November 7 alleged {that a} farmer in Haveri district died by suicide after discovering his land had been taken over by the Board.
“Of their haste to appease minorities, CM@Siddaramaiah @BZ ZameerAhmed Ok have unleashed catastrophic results in Karnataka which are turning into unimaginable to comprise with each passing day,” Surya alleged.
The publish was deleted by the MP later after Haveri district Superintendent of Police termed the information article as faux.
“The information shared is fake. No such incident was reported. The farmer talked about right here, Rudrappa Channappa Balikai suicide was reported on 06/01/2022 and it was reported on account of mortgage and crop loss,” the SP stated.
A case was registered underneath 174 CrPC in Adar police station and the ultimate report was already submitted, he acknowledged.
“Primarily based on a grievance by a police official posted on the social media monitoring cell of the Haveri district police, a case was registered in opposition to Tejasvi Surya, editors of Kannada Dunia e-paper and Kannada Information e-paper underneath part 353 (2) (making, publishing, or circulating statements which are supposed to create or promote emotions of hatred, in poor health will, or enmity between totally different teams) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” a senior police officer stated.
The FIR has been registered at CEN (Cybercrime, Financial Offences, Narcotics) police station in Haveri district, he added.
