BJP MP from Odisha Aparajita Sarangi gave a bag with “1984” inscribed on it to Congress chief Priyanka Gandhi Vadra within the hall of Parliament on Friday.
The inscription was a reference to the anti-Sikh riots in 1984, when Congress employees and leaders have been accused of instigating mobs to kill members of the group, after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
In response to information company PTI, Vadra took the bag from Sarangi and walked on.
Days earlier, Priyanka was noticed in Parliament carrying a bag with the phrase ‘Palestine’ on it. Later, she additionally wore a bag with the phrases ‘Bangladesh ke Hindu aur Isaiyon ke saath khade raho’ (stand with the Hindus and Christians of Bangladesh) written.
Whereas some Congress leaders praised Vadra for the Palestine bag, calling it “a gesture of compassion, dedication to justice and humanity,” the BJP accused her of “appeasement” politics.
“They (Congress leaders) have by no means hung the bag of patriotism on their shoulders. This baggage is the rationale behind their defeats,” stated occasion MP and spokesperson Sambit Patra.
