U.S. Customs and Border Safety brokers assigned to a area close to the Canadian border in Washington discovered two backpacks ignored within the woods containing an estimated $1.1 million of cocaine, officers stated.
The incident occurred when brokers on patrol within the Blaine Sector of Washington, roughly 110 miles north of Seattle, found two black backpacks weighing 78 kilos mendacity on the bottom in a wooded space close to the border in Lynden, in line with a press release from U.S. Customs and Border Safety launched on Monday.
When the brokers seemed inside, they discovered “30 brick-like packages containing a white powdery substance,” officers stated. The substance was later examined and decided to be cocaine.
“Because of the vigilance of Blaine Sector Border Patrol brokers these harmful narcotics had been prevented from reaching our communities,” stated Chief Patrol Agent Rosario “Pete” Vasquez. “Our brokers work tirelessly day in and time out to guard this nation, and this seizure highlights that essential dedication.”
The narcotics had been instantly turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, officers stated.
Authorities didn’t reveal how the luggage acquired there, who they may belong to or if any arrests have been made in connection to the case.
The investigation is at present ongoing.
