Athletics president Dave Kaval to resign after heading group’s unpopular transfer to Las Vegas

Athletics president Dave Kaval is resigning after being the general public face of the group’s transfer from Oakland to Las Vegas.

Kaval, 49, served because the seventh president of the A’s of their 123-year historical past, and held the function for the previous eight years.

Kaval will step down from the function on Dec. 31 to pursue new enterprise alternatives in California. Sandy Dean will function the interim president, and a search to fill the full-time function will start in 2025.

Dean is a long-time enterprise associate of the Fisher household. 

Kaval’s resignation comes after the group cleared its final main hurdles to get a stadium in-built Las Vegas, regardless of the overwhelming opposition of the fanbase. 

The Las Vegas Stadium Authority accepted lease, non-relocation and improvement paperwork earlier in December for the A’s to construct a $1.75 billion stadium on the strip.

Groundbreaking will seemingly happen within the spring with the brand new stadium in Las Vegas being prepared for the start of the 2028 season. 

Kaval was unsuccessful in getting a stadium in-built downtown Oakland. He then got here to a deal to maneuver the franchise out of town, ending a run of 57 years with the group.
