Opposition members on Tuesday walked out of the assembly of the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Modification) Invoice for a second day and in addition wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla alleging “proceedings of the Committee had been carried out in a biased and partisan method by the Chairperson Jagdambika Pal”.
The letter requested the Speaker’s “instant intervention, and count on you to remind the Chairperson of the panel of his responsibility to be bipartisan and uphold parliamentary norms”.
The letter, signed by Congress MPs Gaurav Gogoi, Syed Naseer Hussain, Dr Mohammad Jawed, AAP’s Sanjay Singh, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, TMC’s Kalyan Banerjee, SP’s Mohibbullah Nadvi, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant and others, mentioned the invite to BJP chief Anwar Manippady to depose proof earlier than the panel by the Chairperson is just not inside the scope and ambit of the Committee.
