The Goa Authorities Thursday introduced that the educational 12 months for college students of Lessons 6 to 10 and Class 12 will start from April this 12 months as towards the prevailing follow of starting within the month of June.
In a round, Director of Training Shailesh Zingde stated the federal government has determined to begin the brand new educational 12 months 2025-26 from April 1 for the Lessons 6 to 10 and 12 for presidency, government-aided and unaided recognised colleges within the state.
“The lessons might be performed for the above grades within the month of April as much as 11.30 am. The scholars can have summer season trip from Might 1, 2025 to June 3, 2025. The faculties will observe common timings from June 4 onwards,” the round stated.
Earlier, the educational 12 months began in June, which coincided with the onset of monsoon.
Prasad Lolayekar, Secretary (Training), stated: “The one purpose we’re holding lessons in April now’s as a result of the opposite central boards like CBSE, ICSE…all start the educational 12 months from April. Maharashtra, Mizoram have already began shifting their educational 12 months to the primary of April and different states will observe go well with”.
“April was one month throughout which the college exams used to finish, however no educational work was executed. What we have now stated is that when lessons begin in April, they need to be held until 11.30 am solely. That is due to Goa’s circumstances. It will get extremely popular at the moment and it’s only for Lessons 6 onwards. It is because the Nationwide Training Coverage (NEP) workload for major faculty will not be as a lot. However for the center stage and the secondary stage, if we’re to finish the required variety of hours, and if we maintain lessons in April, lots of the problems might be resolved,” he stated.

“So, there’s an imbalance. Each phrases will now be balanced. Secondly, we might not have to alter the college timings. In lots of colleges, within the morning there’s highschool and within the afternoon there’s larger secondary faculty, so we can not lengthen it past 1.45 pm. So, if we embrace April, we received’t have to alter faculty timings,” he stated.
He stated April is an ‘unproductive’ month from the standpoint of scholars. “So, if there are central authorities schemes, as an example the mid-day meal which comes with a compulsory requirement…which we’re at the moment unable to satisfy. We can fulfill it if we have now lessons in April. Moreover since we’re holding lessons solely until 11.30 am, there isn’t a query of the warmth wave affecting college students,” he added.
Earlier final week, members of All Goa Secondary College Academics Affiliation wrote to the directorate of training, opposing the proposed change. In a letter to the training division, Savio Suraj Victoria, president of the affiliation, stated: “April is without doubt one of the hottest months in Goa, with excessive temperatures and humidity creating extraordinarily uncomfortable and unhealthy circumstances for college students and lecturers. Most faculties lack correct cooling services, rising the chance of dehydration, warmth exhaustion, and decreased focus in lecture rooms. Beginning the educational 12 months in April will depart lecturers inadequate time to finish essential post- educational 12 months duties. This rushed transition will compromise the standard of educational and co-curricular classes”.
Each college students and lecturers are accustomed to the normal June begin, aligned with Goa’s climatic and cultural circumstances, the letter stated.
