Police investigating the alleged suicide of former Karnataka MLA Mohiuddin Bava’s brother B M Mumthaz Ali, 52, suspect that he took his life due to sextortion. Extortionists allegedly pocketed Rs 75 lakh from him and had been demanding an extra Rs 50 lakh.
Mumthaz Ali, who was lively in social work and was the chairman of the Misbah Group of Academic Establishments, was reported lacking on October 6. He despatched an audio message to his daughter and brother Hydar Ali, detailing the blackmail and indicating his intention to die by suicide. Divers recovered his physique from the Phalguni river close to Kulur in Mangaluru on Monday. His automotive was discovered close to the Kulur bridge.
The police have booked Rehamath, Abdul Sattar, Shafi, Sohaib, and Siraj, all residents of Mangaluru, within the extortion case and issued a lookout round to cease them from leaving the nation.
What does the FIR say?
In his criticism, Hydar Ali stated his brother Mumthaz Ali had been blackmailed since July, with the accused alleging he had a bootleg relationship with Rehamath.
“Mumthaz Ali, who has been in public life for greater than 30 years, is thought for his service within the schooling and spiritual sectors,” Hydar Ali stated within the criticism.
He stated that Mumthaz Ali had no affair with Rehamath.
In keeping with the criticism, Abdul Sattar, a rival of Mumthaz Ali, conspired with the others to blackmail him. The gang initially extorted Rs 50 lakh and later cashed a Rs 25 lakh cheque. They continued to demand an extra Rs 50 lakh, which Mumthaz Ali knowledgeable his household about.
Round 3.30 am on October 6, Mumthaz Ali despatched a voice word on WhatsApp to Hydar Ali stating that he was being blackmailed each day and threatened with the discharge of movies to tarnish his status. Within the audio message, Mumthaz Ali named all six accused and demanded stern motion in opposition to them, in line with the criticism.
The police have registered a case beneath sections 308(2) (extortion), 308(5) (extortion by placing in worry of demise), 352 (insulting with intent to breach the peace), 351(2) (legal intimidation), and 190 (illegal meeting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
