New York Metropolis’s deputy mayor for public security, Phil Banks III, resigned Monday within the newest fallout from the corruption scandal engulfing the administration of Mayor Eric Adams.
“We spoke yesterday and we spoke once more this morning and he acknowledged he needs to maneuver on to different issues in his life,” Adams advised NY1. “I want my good good friend properly.”
Banks’ brother, David Banks, resigned as faculties chancellor. First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, David Banks’ spouse, is arranging her departure from the administration.
Phil Banks had his telephones seized final month as a part of a federal investigation into metropolis contracts of how the police division enforced nightlife laws. David Banks and Sheena Wright had their telephones seized as properly.
Phil Banks, at one level the highest-ranking uniformed officer within the NYPD, resigned from the division in 2014 amid a distinct corruption scandal through the prior administration. Federal prosecutors on the time named Banks an unindicted coconspirator.
Adams has pleaded not responsible to a five-count indictment charging him with bribery and fraud. He’s resisting requires his resignation.
