LONDON — An Azerbaijan Airways passenger plane crashed close to Kazakhstan’s Aktau Airport near the Caspian Sea on Wednesday morning, the Kazakh Transport Ministry mentioned.
The plane was was flying from Baku in Azerbaijan to Grozny in Russia, the ministry mentioned in a publish to its official Telegram channel.
“Based on preliminary info from the Azerbaijani facet, there have been 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board,” the ministry mentioned.
Amongst them had been 37 Azerbaijani residents, six from Kazakhstan, three from Kyrgyzstan and 16 from Russia, the ministry mentioned, citing “preliminary knowledge.”
Azerbaijan Airways mentioned in a publish to X that the plane “made an emergency touchdown” round 2 miles from Aktau.
