The Supreme Court docket will hear arguments on Jan. 10 over TikTok’s effort to dam a federal ban on the platform if it isn’t bought by Jan. 19.
The announcement from the Supreme Court docket comes days after a decrease courtroom rejected TikTok’s request for a short lived pause of the ban. TikTok had argued {that a} pause would afford the Supreme Court docket time to weigh the case.
TikTok — which boasts greater than 170 million U.S. customers — challenged the sale-or-ban legislation on First Modification grounds, arguing {that a} potential ban would restrict the free-expression rights of its customers.
In a ruling earlier this month, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court docket of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit rejected TikTok’s bid to overturn the legislation.
