Newport Seaside, California, Mayor Will O’Neill is blasting state lawmakers after the Coast Guard apprehended 21 migrants who had been on a ship almost a mile off the coast on Thursday.
FOX 11 in Los Angeles reported that 18 of the migrants who had been detained had been from Mexico, whereas two had been from Uzbekistan and one was from Russia.
“There’s no approach you plan on making an attempt to guard Uzbeki nationals coming in from our southern border,” O’Neill stated, directing his feedback to California lawmakers. “Get your act collectively, determine this out, as a result of we’re having actual issues affecting actual individuals in your cities all throughout California. You can’t proceed to deal with each metropolis in California like a border metropolis. You can’t put us on this place. We now have actual issues, and we’d like you to repair them now.”

O’Neill stated his concern is that when persons are coming into the U.S. by means of the southern border, particularly from Uzbekistan, “one thing is damaged.”

Also called the “California Values Act,” SB 54 is usually known as a “sanctuary state” regulation.

The station situated the fishing vessel utilized in Thursday’s incident, which is reportedly a 34-foot fishing boat with a stack of life jackets inside.
The 21 migrants apprehended on Thursday had been handed over to U.S. Customs and Border Safety.
