The primary accused within the homicide of an eight-year-old woman has been held after he was injured in a police encounter right here, officers stated Wednesday.
The gunfight broke out late Tuesday evening within the Sardhana police station space of Meerut, they stated.
“The accused, recognized as Kaif (22), was noticed close to a canal monitor within the Kaland village throughout a routine patrol by the Sardhana police. When signalled to cease, he opened hearth on the police crew. In retaliatory hearth, Kaif sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and he was arrested. He’s present process remedy at a hospital,” Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra stated.
Kaif was wished within the December 1 homicide of Afia, an eight-year-old woman, throughout a long-standing feud between two native factions Tehseen and Mashroof, he stated.
A reward of Rs 25,000 was introduced on him. Police recovered a country-made pistol, a spent cartridge, and one reside bullet from Kaif’s possession, he added.
“The homicide was dedicated when Mashroof and his associates allegedly attacked Tehseen’s residence, firing indiscriminately. Whereas Tehseen escaped, his niece Afia, who got here out to test the commotion, was fatally shot within the chest,” SP Mishra added.
Police had already arrested Mashroof on December 4 after an analogous encounter, during which he too was injured. The investigation into the homicide is ongoing, with a number of accused nonetheless at giant.
