There are 58,929 waqf properties that are going through encroachments and of those, 869 are in Karnataka, the federal government informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The knowledge was shared by Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju within the Lok Sabha in reply to an unstarred query by BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai.
“As per the small print obtainable on WAMSI (Waqf Property Administration System of India) 58,929 waqf properties are going through encroachment, out of which Karnataka has 869 such waqf properties,” learn Rijiju’s reply.
To the query on the steps taken to analyze encroachments on waqf properties, Rijiju stated that as per Sections 54 and 55 of the Waqf Act, the chief govt officer of state Waqf board has energy to take authorized motion in opposition to unauthorised occupation and encroachment of Waqf properties.
